As Calgary elects a new mayor and council, we’ll have live results, analysis, and reporting as they come in.

One Calgary councillor was re-elected by a hair’s breadth this morning after the election.

Unofficial election results posted on the city website show that incumbent Sean Chu beat challenger DJ Kelly by 52 votes in Ward 4.

Just before 11 a.m., two of the ward’s vote tabulating machines reported their results. Chu had a 706-vote lead before those ballots were tacked on.

Last week, the CBC reported on allegations of sexual misconduct by Chu as a police officer in the 1990s involving a minor.

Kelly may or may not request a recount if the margin of victory necessitates one. Ward 9 council candidate Naomi Withers confirmed to Postmedia that she plans to ask for a recount. Gian-Carlo Carra, the incumbent, defeated Withers by 152 votes.
