Happy Halloween Messages for Coworkers : Happy Halloween Quotes, Wishes, Images, SMS, Costumes
Halloween is as American as apple pie to a large percentage of the population. Halloween traditions include dressing up in a spooky or creative outfit, trick-or-treating with the kids to collect candy from your neighbours, or hosting a spooktacular get-together with your friends.
However, the autumnal season didn’t begin in the United States until much later. As a matter of fact, Halloween’s origins can be traced back to the Celtic festival of Samhain, which was celebrated at the end of the harvest season to usher in the new year. The day also came at a time when the line between the worlds of the living and the dead was beginning to blur, allowing those of us still alive to communicate with our departed loved ones.

History
Most historians agree that Halloween’s origins date back to the Celtic people of Europe, who celebrated the end of the harvest and the beginning of a new year at a festival called Samhain about 2,000 years ago (pronounced “sow-win”). According to the American Folklife Center, people also believed that they could better commune with the dead during this time period because of the prevalence of large bonfires lit in their honour.

According to History, the Celts also believed that Samhain’s spiritual communication facilitated future prediction by Celtic priests, or druids. They lit bonfires and offered crops and animals as sacrifices to their gods to appease them. Villagers wore animal heads and skins to the bonfire ceremonies.
