Receiver Odell Beckham Jr. agreed to a one-year deal with the Rams on Thursday

It was a no-brainer for Odell Beckham Jr. to sign a one-year contract with Los Angeles on Thursday, as the city has been a hotbed for super teams in recent years.

On Monday, the Browns cut ties with Beckham, who was in his third season in Cleveland. There were no teams interested in picking up his $7.25 million salary under his previous contract, so he was free to sign with any team on Tuesday.

After weighing his alternatives, Beckham decided to join the NFL’s most effective passing offence, led by yards-per-pass leader Matthew Stafford and coach Sean McVay.

Cooper Kupp (74 receptions, 1,019 yards, 10 touchdowns) and starters Robert Woods (556 yards) and Van Jefferson (second-year pro) will all play with the three-time Pro Bowl pick (443 yards). One of those three receivers is likely to get reduced playing time once Beckham joins the Rams, who have used three receiver sets nearly every time this season in their offence.

Prior to their bye week, the Los Angeles Rams (7-2) take on the San Francisco 49ers on Monday night.

Both Miller and Beckham join a Rams defence that leads the NFL in sacks, while DeSean Jackson left two weeks ago because he couldn’t receive playing time in front of LA’s three starters. Similarly, the Rams don’t hesitate to add quality even in areas where they are already strong.

When Beckham was dealt to Cleveland in 2018, the Rams jumped at the chance to acquire him, and coach Sean McVay has spoken highly of his abilities. For the Rams, who have returned to the top of the NFL’s offensive rankings after a two-year hiatus, Beckham’s speed and athleticism could be a welcome addition.

Before the transaction was finalised, LeBron James congratulated Beckham on Twitter “My brother, @obj, welcome to Los Angeles! It’s time to get going.”

The Rams’ 2020 All-Pro defensive back, Jalen Ramsey, shared his post from the day Miller agreed to join the Rams with a fresh caption: “Just experiencing this mood again.” Ramsey appeared to know what was going earlier in the day.

The Los Angeles Rams have done an excellent job of managing the egos and requirements of their star players, with coach Sean McVay resolving nearly any public dissatisfaction. Despite the fact that he was seen as a possible locker room issue in Jacksonville, Ramsey has shown to be a model citizen and an obvious team leader for the Los Angeles Lakers.

Beckham could pose a new challenge for the Rams, but he could also embrace the team’s winning culture after only making the playoffs once in his entire NFL career with the New York Giants.

With the New York Giants over his first five NFL seasons, Beckham only made it to a playoff game in 2016.
