Dopesick Cast : Dopesick celebrated the tireless work of AUSAs Rick Mountcastle
If you’ve been paying attention to the news, you know that the Sackler family and their corporation, Purdue Pharma, received little to no legal consequences for the opioid crisis in the United States
On Wednesday’s finale of Hulu’s limited series “Dopesick,” the final segment made apparent that the OxyContin manufacturer must pay billions in settlements.
It was reported that the Sackler family’s name was erased or denied when it came to museums, as well as other acts of public disgrace they received, including forfeiting their business

To top it all off, Dopesick recognised the dedication of Assistant United States Attorneys Rick Mountcastle and Randy Ramseyer and their boss, United States Attorney John Brownlee. They were all honoured at Dopesick. It was a poignant moment in Episode 8 when DEA Deputy Director Bridget Meyer stopped by to congratulate Rick and Randy on their efforts to bring down the Sacklers, despite the fact that the outcome wasn’t quite what they had intended.
Dopesick finished with a message of hope, against the odds. This Hulu limited series, which covered the rise of the opioid epidemic across eight episodes, might not have ended with Purdue Pharma founder Sackler family members behind bars, but producer Danny Strong understood he wanted a positive spin on the many heartbreaking stories his team of writers were presenting. When it came to ending things with white lettering on black, he realised it wasn’t an option.

Wasn’t that what you were hoping for? As a journalist, I wanted to record what happened to the prosecutors who were prosecuted for these crimes,” adds Strong. As a result, where do we truly end the storey? “How could I have known?”
I knew I wanted to cut back to one of my main characters in the current day and end the show on his arc, not resolve the show on factual information.
