Windstream Activation : Self Installation Information | Windstream
To activate your Windstream service, you will need to download the Windstream Service Agent. First, you’ll need to log in to your Windstream account. Go to www.windstream.net and click the “My Account” link in the top right corner of the page.
Some homes are equipped with an internet-ready jack, making your self-installation process even easier! Just look for the green jack (pictured below) in the location specified in your order confirmation e-mail. If your home was prequalified for self-installation and you don’t already have a green jack, don’t worry, it’s not required for all self-installs! Just follow our easy set-up instructions provided once you locate the active jack in your home. And we’re always here to help you should you experience any difficulty during your setup!

What to expect with Self-Installation
You will be provided with an Activation Date when you select Self-Installation. On this date, a technician will confirm that your address is serviceable. If the technician cannot confirm that your address is serviceable, your activation date could be delayed.  Your Internet Service will not be available until the Activation Date provided.
Important things to know about your Activation Date:
- A technician will visit your house to ensure proper outdoor wiring. This will enable you to connect to the Internet.
- You do not need to be home when the technician comes to your house.
- Please have outside pets secured and gates unlocked on your activation date so the technician can have access to all necessary areas on the outside of your property.
- You will not have Internet Service prior to your Activation Date.
Modem Installation:
- Your modem will be shipped to your house, and should be received within 3-5 business days.
- You can install your modem on your Activation Date.
- Follow the instructions included with your modem for setup. The activation process will include setting up your username and email address.
- The average length of time to walk through the entire set up process is approximately 30-60 minutes.

How do I activate Windstream Security Suite?
To activate your service, you will need to download the Windstream Service Agent.
How do I download Windstream Security Suite?
First, you’ll need to log in to your Windstream account. Go to www.windstream.net and click the “My Account” link in the top right corner of the page.
At the login page, enter your Username and Password and click “Log In”. Once you are in the Account Manager, click the “Download Windstream Security Suite powered by McAfee” link.
At this point, you’ll be taken straight to the McAfee account that is linked to your Windstream account. click the “Download/Install” button.
Note: If you get an error or if you don’t see the screen displayed at right after clicking “Download/Install”, go to McAfee’s Support FAQ and walk through instructions on how to get your PC ready for downloading.
- Enter http://service.mcafee.com/ in your browser’s address bar.
- Click “FAQs and Search”
- Click “Proceed to Search”
- Click “What should I know or do before installing McAfee products?”

Read and review the End License Agreement, and click the “Download” button once you’ve agreed.
Click “Run” in the dialog window that appears, and then select the type of installation: Complete (recommended) or Custom.
At this point, the installation will begin. The screen will progress through the steps automatically until finished.
Congratulations! You have installed Security Suite from Windstream, powered by McAfee.
