1. Make sure your device is turned off.

    • Note: If your phone is on while you insert the SIM card, you may need to restart your phone

2. Open your TruConnect SIM Kit and remove the SIM tool and the SIM card

3. Locate your phone’s SIM card tray

    • Heads up! Your SIM card tray will be a small slot with a hole, usually on the sides of your phone.
    • Can’t find it? For Cloud Mobile and other device types, you’ll need to remove the back of your phone cover. See your device’s user manual for more details.

4. Push the SIM tool into the hole until the SIM card tray opens.

5. Find the right size SIM card for your phone’s SIM card tray. Start by punching out the biggest size and work your way down until you find the size that fits your phone.

6. Once you have the right size SIM card, place it into your phone’s SIM card tray.

    • Already have a SIM card in your phone? Replace your phone’s old SIM card with your new TruConnect SIM card.

7. Once your TruConnect SIM card is in the tray, close your SIM card tray.

8. Go ahead and turn your phone on. Give your phone a second to update your carrier. You’ll see it in the status bar.

9. Call our Customer Care Agents at (800) 430-0443 Monday-Saturday 5:00 AM to 9:00 PM PST to activate your new SIM Card. ​

    • Heads up! When Customer Care activates your SIM Card, your call will be automatically disconnected. ​

  • Lifeline Customers Outside of California: TruConnect’s FREE ACP plans includes at least 12.5 GB of 4G/LTE data (ACP plan adds at least 8 GB of data to your Lifeline plan) with Wi-Fi hotspot capability
  • Stand-Alone Service: TruConnect’s FREE ACP plans includes at least 8 GB of 4G/LTE data, Wi-Fi hotspot capabilities, and your choice of an LTE-enabled hotspot device or Google Play Certified LTE Android smartphone**

What Is Lifeline?

Lifeline is a government program focused on connecting qualified low-income customers by subsidizing phone service. TruConnect offers Lifeline in 36 states, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

To receive a free smartphone and monthly service, you must meet the income-based or program-based eligibility guidelines. The program is limited to one Lifeline benefit per household.

Qualifying programs include:

  • Medicaid / Medi-Cal.
  • SNAP / CalFresh.
  • Federal Public Housing Assistance or Section 8
  • Supplemental Security Income (SSI)
  • Veteran and Survivors Pension Benefit.
