If you think your account has been hacked or taken over, you should visit this page https://m.facebook.com/hacked to secure your account. Facebook will ask you to change your password and review recent login activity.
Your account may have been hacked if you notice that:
- Your email address or password has changed
- Your name or birthday has changed
- Friend requests have been sent to people you don’t know
- Messages have been sent that you didn’t write
- Posts or ads have been made that you didn’t create
You can also review tools and tips to help keep your account safe. You may also want to learn how to protect yourself against malicious software that can potentially compromise your account.
Protect your password
- Don’t use your Facebook password anywhere else online, and never share it with other people.
- Your password should be hard to guess, so don’t include your name or common words.
Never share your login information
- Scammers may create fake websites that look like Facebook and ask you to log in with your email address and password.
- Always check the website’s URL before you enter your login information. When in doubt, type www.facebook.com into your browser to get to Facebook.
- Don’t forward emails from Meta to other people, as they may have sensitive information about your account.
Don’t accept friend requests from people you don’t know
- Scammers may create fake accounts to friend people
- Becoming friends with scammers might allow them to spam your timeline, tag you in posts and send you malicious messages
Get a one-off password
You can use a one-off password to log in to your Facebook account any time you feel uncomfortable entering your real password (such as in a library or Internet cafe).
To get a one-off password
- Send a text message (SMS) to get a one-off password. Check this list to see which mobile carriers support one-off passwords and what number you should use. If your network provider is listed, text otp to their number. SMS messages may sometimes be delayed.
- If your mobile number is already linked to your Facebook account, we’ll reply with a unique, 6-character temporary password. If you haven’t added this mobile number to your account, we’ll send you an email with instructions on how to add it and collect your code.
- Once you get your code, enter it in the Password section of the Facebook login screen. Bear in mind that one-off passwords are only valid for 20 minutes, then they’ll expire.
Your one-off password is temporary and can’t be used more than once.
