Minecraft: Java Edition Multiplayer Connection Issues
If you have successfully logged in to your game, you can sometimes still run into problems with communication between your computer/network and the server you are trying to connect to.
Possible solutions are:
- Check that your network connection is enabled, and that no programs are blocking outgoing connections.
- Try disabling any existing firewall program, or changing its configuration options.
- Restart your modem/router.
- You may also want to try logging out of your account and then logging back in, as this refreshes your profile’s authentication and connection with our servers.
It is also possible that this can occur when the Mojang servers are having difficulties processing requests. If you have tried the above solutions, please wait a bit and try your server login again later.
If issues continue, you may want to contact your network and/or server administrator.
If you’re still receiving a connection error after trying the above solutions, then you may want to check that this is not caused by some third-party Minecraft software/mods that you have downloaded.
Dedicated Servers for Minecraft
What is a dedicated Bedrock server?
Similar to what has been available for players of Minecraft: Java Edition, dedicated Bedrock servers enable players on the Bedrock versions of Minecraft to set up their own servers at home on Windows and Linux computers, or host their server using a cloud-based service.
This capability is in its early development stages. As with any early release software, it may have severe issues. As a result, we may decide to stop providing this capability at any time.
To clarify, dedicated servers are hosted by individuals and are not partnered with Minecraft. Featured servers are specifically partnered with Minecraft. Java and Bedrock versions both have dedicated servers, but only Bedrock has featured servers.
How do I download the dedicated Bedrock server software?
To download the software required to set up your dedicated Bedrock server, visit the Download Server Software (Alpha) for Minecraft page.
Your download will include a “How to use the dedicated server” guide that will help you through the installation steps to get you up and running.
How do I start up the server?
For Linux:
Unzip the container file into an empty folder. Start the server with the following command:
LD_LIBRARY_PATH=. ./bedrock_server
For Windows:
Unzip the container file into an empty folder. Start the server by running the bedrock_server.exe file.
