On Tuesday, the Chicago Blackhawks will face the Colorado Avalanche with the hope of snapping a recent losing streak, splitting up Patrick Kane and Alex DeBrincat, reuniting Seth Jones and Jake McCabe on defence, and starting Marc-André Fleury in goal for the first time since Dec. 17.

The Hawks lost their fifth straight game, a 4-3 overtime loss to the Avalanche at the United Center in the teams’ first meeting since the Avs beat the Hawks 4-1 in the season opener in Denver. Jonathan Toews scored for the first time since that same Dec. 17 game, and Alex DeBrincat scored twice 40 seconds apart.

With 8:16 left in regulation, Erik Johnson’s second goal of the game knotted the game at 3-3, and Cale Makar’s game-winning goal came in overtime.

He spun off Kirby Dach’s defence and then stick-shifted to put the puck over Fleury’s head.

A three-game trip to Arizona begins Thursday with the certainty that the DeBrincat-Kane pairing is still effective.
