To sign up or register for Empower Retirement, all you need to do is complete these simple steps. Download the Empower app from the App Store or Play Store onto your phone.
To sign up for Empower, all you need to do is complete these 3 simple steps:
- Download the Empower app from the App Store or Play Store onto your phone
- Tell us about yourself so that we can set up your account for you
- Connect your external bank accounts and get started!
On occasion, we may need some additional information to set up your account. This manual review process can take up to 3 business days.
Please note that you will need to connect at least one external bank account to get started.
To link your account:
- Tap on “Securely connect account”.
- Select your bank. If you can’t find it in the list, search for your bank in the search bar at the top of the page.
We use a data provider, Plaid, to connect your external accounts.
Sometimes, you might encounter errors when trying to link your account. If you get a general error, you can typically try again at a later time. If you continue to get errors, please reach out to us at help@empower.me so we can look into it for you.

- Ensure that your login credentials (username and password) are correct.
- Ensure that the permissions in your external account allow you to connect to external institutions. You may need to contact your bank to change your security settings.
How do I connect my bank account(s) to the Empower app?
To link to your external account:
- Go to the Analysis page of your app and scroll down to the Accounts section
- Click on the + icon on the upper right
If you can’t find your banking institution in the list, tap on the magnifying glass 🔍 on the upper right and you’ll be able to search for it.
We use Plaid, a third-party data provider, to link external accounts to Empower. If you aren’t able to find your bank in the search function, that means that the account is not currently available to be linked. However, this list keeps changing, so you can try again at a later time.

Getting a Cash Advance
Cash Advance is for people who need a little extra cash between paychecks. Empower will float you up to $250 to help you bridge the gap.
When you subscribe to the Empower platform and link your primary bank account via Plaid, Empower will determine whether we can offer you Cash Advance. Cash Advance offers range between $10 – $250.
If you are eligible for Cash Advance, simply accept the offer in our mobile app, wait for it to hit your bank account, and automatically repay the full amount, including any instant delivery fees or optional tips, on your scheduled repayment date.
We’ll always tell you the scheduled repayment date and amount owed before you decide to accept the Cash Advance offer.
