How do you find out if you are going to get a stimulus check?
How do you find out if you are going to get a stimulus check?
To get a stimulus check, you must:
- Have a valid Social Security number
- Filed either 2018 or 2019 tax returns if you were required to file. If you were supposed to file those returns but didn’t, you need to do that now.
- If you have a valid SSN but weren’t required to file a tax return (mostly people with incomes below the limits) you can get a check. You need to fill in your information at the link below.
- You are not able to be claimed as a dependent on someone else’s tax return.
- Have income below $99,000 for single filers, $198,000 filing jointly (if your income is more than $75,000 individual/$150,000 jointly, your amount will be reduced).
If you filed tax returns in 2018 or 2019, or get Social Security, SSDI, or SSI, you will automatically get a check. If you are not one of these situations, you need to go online to the government website and give them your information. But only if you are not required to file a tax return. If you were supposed to but didn’t, entering information here will just slow down any money you do get.
