On Monday evening, six tractor-trailers collided with multiple downed trees on Interstate 95 in northern Virginia, causing traffic to grind to a halt.
According to Virginia’s Department of Transportation, both northbound and southbound lanes of 1-95 were shut down near Fredericksburg.
It’s been reported that many of those stuck in the stalemate have run out of fuel for their heaters and are now without food or water.
Over 14 inches of snow fell on Virginia during the time of the multiple truck accident, knocking out power to over 400,000 people.
“There’s a lot of snow around. Keeping the heat on is a necessity “Insider spoke to driver Kiran Bose, who was taking a group of five to Richmond. “I’m about a quarter of the way to the finish line.”
Four hours into the 12-hour journey, the 24-year-old recent college grad was still stranded in his car, which hadn’t moved since 1.30 a.m. local time.
“Each and every one of us is in the exact same predicament. Most of them had exited their vehicles, but the cold had overcome them “Bose made the comment. According to Accuweather, the temperature in Fredericksburg was 16 degrees Fahrenheit as of Tuesday morning at 4:00 a.m. Eastern Time.
