Ooty Kodaikanal Epass Registration : Tamil Nadu E Pass Registration
Ooty Kodaikanal Epass Registration : Tamil Nadu E Pass Registration
The Madras High Court has mandated that, from May 7 to June 30, all motor vehicles wishing to access the Nilgiris(Ooty) and Kodaikanal must procure electronic passes (e-passes).
This will enable the district administrations to gather information regarding the quantity and nature of vehicles accessing the two hill stations, the quantity of summer tourists, and other related metrics.
On the other hand, a special Division Bench consisting of Justices D. Bharatha Chakravarthy and N. Sathish Kumar clarified that the Nilgiris and Dindigul Collectorates are free to issue as many e-passes as they like, and that locals should not be required to get them. It was also instructed that the Collectors publicise the e-pass system extensively.
The Nilgiris and Dindigul Collectors said that following the High Court order, the state government will be instructed to limit the number of tourists by reducing the entry of vehicles. During peak hours, the inflow of vehicles rises from 2,000 to 20,000 per day, which is estimated to cause congestion and environmental damage.
