Small earthquake rattles San Jose awake Thursday morning

A preliminary magnitude 3.6 earthquake struck near San Jose on Thursday morning at 5:15 a.m., according to the US Geological Survey.

At a depth of 6 kilometers, the quake was centred near Alum Rock.

There was no immediate word on damage or injuries caused by the earthquake, though a number of residents reported waking up to a jolt.

At 5:15 a.m., the temblor struck 5.4 miles west of Alum Rock and 9.2 miles west of San Jose. It was 3.73 miles deep.
